One Piece Luffy

£700.00

This One Piece painting was a bit of a passion project for me. When I first heard they were making a live-action One Piece, I was skeptical (I mean, did you see Cowboy Bebop?). But I didn’t need to worry, it was bloody amazing! The show captured everything that made the original cartoon so iconic: the madness, the joy, the chaos, and yes, even the darkness.

ABOUT THE PAINTING

WHAT INSPIRED ME

This One Piece painting was a bit of a passion project for me. When I first heard they were making a live-action One Piece, I was skeptical (I mean, did you see Cowboy Bebop?). But I didn’t need to worry,  it was bloody amazing! The show captured everything that made the original cartoon so iconic: the madness, the joy, the chaos, and yes, even the darkness.

The cast, featuring Iñaki Godoy, Emily Rudd, Mackenyu, Taz Skylar, and Jacob Gibson, absolutely nailed the roles of Luffy, Nami, Zoro, Sanji, and Usopp. The energy and chemistry between the crew was electric, and I wanted this painting to reflect that same high energy and vibrancy, while merging the live-action with the animated world.

I designed the painting to sit in a space between both mediums — a bold pop art interpretation of Luffy that blends his lifelike presence with the cartoon and Filmation aesthetics. Think flat, strong colors, sharp animation black lines, and that classic comic book style that makes the characters pop. The result is a painting that feels like it belongs both in the world of animation and the new live-action adaptation.

Luffy turned out even better than I ever imagined, but let me tell you, painting that mouth was no joke! It was a challenge, but the effort was worth it to capture his infectious grin and the pure joy of being a pirate with dreams of becoming King of the Pirates.
