COMMISSION A MURAL
COMMISSION A MURAL by Bristol artist Stephen Quick
"Transform your wall with a large scale piece of street art!"
“Being an artist based in Bristol UK, you are surrounded by large scale murals and street art, you get pulled in and inspired. Creating art on this scale is an entirely different experience from working in the studio, it’s exhilarating! The scale, the elements, the textures, they all bring unique and exciting challenges. As my old art tutor used to say, “Make it bigger!” and it’s true, when you go big, the art takes on a whole new life.
I love working on these large-scale murals, whether street art, transforming a brick wall, breathing new life into a crumbling section of outdoor hording, or a more traditional mural painting a perfectly plastered interior wall. Each surface has its own story, and turning it into a canvas makes it something special, unique and really cool!”

HOW TO COMMISSION A MURAL

Commissioning a mural or a piece of street art is a bit more complex than creating a traditional painting, there are many factors to consider before the first stroke or spray of paint goes on the wall. Here’s how the process works:
Step 1: Share Your Idea
Start by sending me an email with details about your wall / surface. Include photos, description of the surface, size and the location, along with any ideas you have, whether you have a specific vision / subject or want to give me creative freedom.
Step 2: Design and Logistics
Once I have the details, I’ll assess the scale of the project and identify any potential challenges. Together, we’ll work out the logistics, such as designing the mural, determining if we’ll need scaffolding, a scissor lift, ladders, or extra assistance. With murals, no two projects are ever the same, which is part of the fun! When you commission an outside mural, it’s also important to consider the timeline. Factors like weather, surface, the public, can significantly impact the schedule, so be sure to contact me well ahead of time.
Step 3: Price, Planning and Schedule
After everything is planned and finalised, I’ll provide a detailed quote for the project, and we can lock in the design and schedule.
When you commission a mural keep in mind your timescale. Planning, logistics and the weather can heavily alter a timeline, so please plan ahead.
F.A.Q
Murals are a significant investment due to their scale and the logistics involved. The cost can vary greatly depending on the project, a mural inside a home will typically cost less than one covering the entire side of a house. As a guideline, my rates start at £400 per day, plus additional costs for materials and equipment.

It’s difficult to give an exact timeframe, as each mural is unique. For example, a 3m x 4m indoor wall typically takes around 2–3 days to complete, depending on the complexity of the design. Outdoor murals, however, are at the mercy of the weather, which can sometimes extend the timeline. Rest assured, I’ll factor all these variables into the quote to provide an accurate estimate.
Sometimes you’ll need planning permission if your home is a listed building or in a conservation area. You must also get permission if you want to use the mural to promote a business.
Yes, I do not create artwork featuring religious deities, convicted criminals, or controversial figures such as Trump, Cameron, or Hitler in a way that celebrates or glorifies them. However, parody and satire paintings are exceptions to this.
Yes, there will be a charge of £200 which will include a digital copy and a YouTube upload, unfortunately I can no longer offer DVD copies.
Indoor murals can last for many years, much like traditional paintings, with minimal maintenance required. Outdoor murals, however, are subject to the elements and need to be assessed on a case-by-case basis. While all my murals are sealed for protection, the UK’s unpredictable weather can impact their longevity, especially on walls that endure extreme rain or harsh conditions during winter. If your wall is particularly exposed, I’d recommend reconsidering or planning for regular upkeep. A bit of yearly maintenance can go a long way in preserving the mural’s vibrancy and charm!
Murals are a mix of spray paint, masonry paint and acrylic paint
Throughout the UK, travel and board will be included in the price.
As with any painting, the copyright of the painting stays with me, but you own the painting / mural.
With premission, yes!
