TMNT Donatello Figure

This pop art acrylic painting is inspired by the original 1980s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Donatello action figure, capturing every nostalgic detail, right down to the unusual brownish-green color they chose for him and his signature bo staff (or at least the one that wasn’t lost!).

The TMNT figures were more than just toys, they had a unique sculpt, a sense of form and movement that made them feel even cooler than their animated counterparts. These action figures were the centerpiece of my childhood, proudly displayed in my bedroom for years. Painting Donatello took me right back to those days, carefully setting up epic battle scenes on the floor, only to struggle to keep my half-naked Shredder figure from toppling over!

Working in acrylic allowed me to capture the glossy plastic sheen, the molded details, and the vibrant, slightly offbeat colors that made these figures so distinctive. I wanted the painting to feel like a window into the past, evoking that same excitement of tearing open a new TMNT figure and adding it to my collection.

For fans of the Turtles, this isn’t just a painting, it’s a love letter to the golden age of action figures and Saturday morning cartoons. Cowabunga!
