ABOUT THE PAINTING

WHAT INSPIRED ME

This original pop art painting celebrates the iconic band The Libertines, featuring the four members, Carl Barat, Pete Doherty, John Hassall, and Gary Powell, in their signature red military jackets. Painted with acrylics on canvas, this artwork captures the energy and rebellious spirit of the band in a bold, pop art style.

Inspired by a striking photograph by Sargnet, the concept was to create a dynamic painting that would stand out with vibrant colors while maintaining a classic pop aesthetic. The members of The Libertines are depicted in varying shades of grey, with their faces subtly painted from black to white. This monochromatic approach allows their individual features to blend seamlessly while highlighting their collective presence. The real pop comes from the jackets, painted in bright red to make them jump off the canvas. The contrast between the subdued tones of the faces and the vibrant red coats creates an energetic focal point, capturing the essence of The Libertines’ bold and rebellious style.
