Road Trip to Cheltenham Paint Festival: Murals, Paint, and a Four-Legged Co-Pilot

Another incredible weekend painting at Cheltenham Paint Festival, I think this marks my fifth time! This event is always a highlight of my year, standing out as one of the best street art festivals in the UK. Huge thanks to Andy and his team, plus the amazing volunteers who work tirelessly to bring this vibrant celebration of murals and street art to life.

This year, I packed up my paints, loaded the car, and hit the road from Bristol to Cheltenham, with a trunk full of supplies and my dog riding shotgun. There’s nothing like a creative road trip to fuel inspiration, and this weekend was no exception.

At the festival, I painted Wildflower, a mural capturing strength, unpredictability, and resilience. She’s the one always watching over us, pulling us through whatever comes our way. For this piece, I stepped outside my comfort zone, ditching stencils for a more organic approach. It was both nerve-wracking and freeing, and I may have used a lot more tape than usual! My favorite part? The wild movement in her hair, adding energy and life to the piece.

Painting on a broken, flaking board, I embraced the contrast between my polished pop art style and the raw urban surface. This clash of textures embodies the essence of street art—finding beauty in unexpected places.

Massive gratitude to Cheltenham Paint Festival for continuing to provide a platform for artists to transform the city with breathtaking murals. I already can’t wait to return next year—paint, dog, and road trip included!
