BRISTOL LIP
'Bristol Lip' Steet Art, The Bear Pit, Bristol.
Woman pulling down her lower lip to reveal the word "Bristol" tattooed inside.
I had the privilege of being invited to live paint by Bristol Co-Lab at the Bear Pit, a vibrant hub of creativity located in the heart of Bristol. This opportunity allowed me to contribute to the promotion and celebration of local arts, a cause close to my heart.
For this event, I created a piece titled Bristol Lip. It’s a close-up portrait of a woman pulling down her lower lip to reveal the word “Bristol” tattooed inside. The woman gazes directly at the viewer with a bold, defiant expression. Through this painting, I sought to encapsulate the unique spirit of Bristol—a city renowned for its cutting-edge art scene, distinctive style, and undeniable charm, yet one that also possesses a raw, shadowy undertone. The contrast between the city’s outward vibrancy and its darker, more complex layers served as the inspiration behind the piece.
Painting in the Bear Pit itself amplified this narrative. By day, the Bear Pit can feel like a relatively peaceful and inviting space, buzzing with activity and community energy. However, as daylight fades and night takes over, the atmosphere transforms, taking on an edgier, almost foreboding quality. I wanted my painting to reflect this duality—to capture not only the city’s undeniable creativity and resilience but also the darker, more challenging aspects of its identity.
