Jessica Jones

Krysten Ritter’s portrayal of Jessica Jones completely transformed this character for me. I wasn’t very familiar with her before she took on the role, but after watching the series, she became one of my favorite Marvel characters. Jessica Jones is, in my opinion, one of the best Marvel shows ever made, and painting her was a no-brainer.

For this original pop art painting, I chose to work with spray paint, ink, and acrylics, blending both drips and bold brushstrokes to create a sense of chaos that matches Jessica’s complex character. She is painted on a decoupaged canvas, featuring ‘Where’s Wally’ pages, a playful nod to her detective work and the puzzle solving nature of her character. Surrounding her are Marvel heroes in coloring book form, including Spider-Man, Iron Man, and The Hulk, adding an extra layer of depth to the piece.

I used monochromatic tones for Jessica’s figure, keeping her soft and light amidst the overwhelming chaos of her world. The drips and strokes that surround her embody her gritty, intense, and raw nature. This painting reflects Jessica’s complexity, vulnerable yet strong, and always ready to fight back. The pop art style adds a dynamic punch to her character, capturing both the chaos and the calm within.
