“We’re Not in New York Anymore” is a pop art mashup painting that combines the worlds of Iron Man and The Wizard of Oz in a playful reinterpretation of one of cinema’s most iconic scenes. In this piece, Iron Man takes the place of the Tin Man, standing still as Dorothy oils his joints to help him move. The title of the painting plays off Dorothy’s famous line, “We’re not in Kansas anymore,” humorously swapping Kansas for New York, Iron Man’s stomping grounds.

This painting, done in acrylic on canvas, merges the fantasy world of Oz with the tech-driven world of Marvel, bringing together two beloved characters in a completely new context. The scene creates a fun juxtaposition—where the mechanical, high-tech Iron Man, known for his sleek armor and advanced technology, replaces the rusty, heart-seeking Tin Man. Dorothy’s oil can, typically used to help the Tin Man, adds a whimsical contrast to Iron Man’s sophisticated suit of armor.
I wanted this piece to highlight the intersection of classic storytelling with modern pop culture, offering a fresh twist on both worlds. The painting captures the innocence of The Wizard of Oz and the dynamic energy of Iron Man, inviting viewers to imagine what happens when these two universes collide. The blend of old and new is meant to provoke curiosity and spark the imagination, turning a familiar scene into something unexpected yet fitting.
To top off my pride in this pointing, the one and only Robert Downey Jr shared it via his Facebook page!
