Street Art at Cheltenham Paint Festival: A Bold and Very Wet Experience
The first-ever Cheltenham Paint Festival was nothing short of extraordinary! Battling through rain, thunder, and even floods, the event was a testament to the resilience and passion of street artists. At one point, a good portion of my painting was washed away, but the collective energy of the festival kept spirits high.
For my piece, titled Dark Light and inspired by the HIM song, I stepped away from my usual pop-art style. Gone were the familiar faces, postmodern imagery, and vibrant pop elements I’m often associated with. Instead, I embraced a gothic twist—a daring choice I had wanted to explore for some time.
While I love the depth and mood of Dark Light, I felt it lacked the layered pop art energy that defines much of my work. Still, it was a fantastic learning experience and a chance to push my boundaries as an artist. The painting stands as a striking and meaningful piece in its own right.
Cheltenham Paint Festival proved to be an inspiring and unforgettable celebration of street art, despite the weather’s best attempts to derail it.
