Upfest 2024: A Month-Long Celebration of Street Art
Upfest 2024 felt different this year. Due to cost and logistical challenges, the festival moved away from its traditional massive weekend event, instead stretching across an entire month. Each weekend featured small board paintings, while large murals were completed throughout the weeks.
At first, I was a disappointed to receive a small board instead of a wall. But once I got over my self and stopped being a baby, the experience turned out to be an joy, less like a festival and more like the intimate paint jams I’ve organized over the years. The energy was great, with so many talented street artists and kind-hearted people coming together for a true “one love” atmosphere.
For this year’s event, I painted Care, my latest pop art comic book creation. She embodies strength and individuality, blending Western and Asian influences in a striking, powerful way. Wearing a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles mask, she represents resilience, fearlessness, and the fighting spirit of women. A bohemian feather in her ear adds a sense of freedom and uniqueness.
Unlike my usual fast-paced painting sessions, I took my time with Care, sharpening the lines and fully immersing myself in the process. It was a pleasure to slow down, reflect, and truly connect with the piece.
A huge thank you to the Upfest and Tobacco Factory teams for organizing such an incredible event. Your dedication to live painting, street art, and the creative community made this one unforgettable. Can’t wait for the next one!
