What a fun way to spend a bank holiday — live painting at @opencanvas.artfest
The turnout for the Inaugural event was bloody amazing, and the people were genuinely lovely. This wasn’t a street art festival. It wasn’t an art trail. It was just a load of people in a field, painting.
No restrictions on style. No restrictions on age. No restrictions on sex. Just people painting stuff in a field. Which, when you think about it, is actually a pretty fucking good idea.
The wind, however, was absolutely ridiculous.
It blew the paintbrush out of my hand twice. TWICE.
And spray painting was basically a lottery. You had no idea where the paint was going to go. The canvas? Maybe. The floor? Probably. My face? Almost certainly.
The painting itself was less of a finished piece and more of a live demonstration of a man slowly losing a battle with the weather. It’s not my best work, but honestly, that wasn’t really the point.
The point was the day.
The people. The painting. The complete lack of control. Standing in a field getting battered by the wind while pretending I knew what I was doing.
And that was bloody great.
Massive thank you to @alice.sims.paints for the invite, and to everyone at Frenchay Common for being so friendly. Bloody good day
